Not enough juice (too small) and your home will be too warm and have poor air quality (and/or your AC unit will be overtaxed and break down out prematurely). 

Too much juice (too large) and your AC unit/system may (a) cost you more each month on your utility bill because the system is simply meant for larger-scale homes/facilities and/or (b) you may have purchased an AC unit/system that was more expensive than what you really needed… and, you may be paying for tuneups and repairs in the future that correspond to a larger machine (aka, bigger units typically require bigger replacement parts, and may cost more to repair just because they are simply… well… bigger). In other words, it typically costs more to repair/maintain a semi-truck in comparison to a Toyota Prius car.
